What is Reiki?

Since becoming a Reiki practitioner I often get the question...

"Just what is Reiki anyway?"

I usually reply something like, "Well, if you think of it as I'm a funnel for an
energy from a Universal Source and sending this light energy into a person,
animal, stones, plants or even to the Earth itself to help with healing or
balancing"

I will usually share my own experience with Reiki. Explaining how I was
diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and how Reiki has helped me. I am now
medicine free and feel using Reiki aided greatly with this.

But you know, Really how do you briefly explain something you cannot see,
yet can feel the results of? Many don't want the history of Reiki (1) they
simply want to know, What is it? They hear the term and are curious.
Which is wonderful. Because I like to talk about Reiki and anyone
interested in hearing my take on it has come to the right place!

Yet, explaining "What is Reiki" can be confusing or foreign at first until we
as the Reiki Practitioners/Teachers become more familiar and comfortable
with it. I have felt it becomes easier when we explain that there is energy in
everything. Humans have an energy field. Plants have an energy field.
Animals have energy. Even the rocks and stones have energy. Your home
has a combined energy. The Earth has energy. All an energy that when
using a magnetometer (2)  can be measured.

The energy used in Reiki is usually referred to as "Life Force Energy". But
Many will call it a variety of other things depending on beliefs and teaching.
But the common thread of "Energy from an endless supply" remains the
same by Reiki Practitioners.

This exchange of "Universal Energy" can be felt by practitioner and patient
alike during a session. The practitioner may also pick up or sense emotions,
negative energy, illness. This is something experienced by Attuned and
Non- Attuned Practitioners alike on varying levels. It is my own experience
that this became stronger with Reiki Attunements. You may have felt this
energy yourself and not known it.

Think of the last time you had an argument and the room was filled with
"that energy".

This is just an example of feeling negative energy. Just as we can sense
negative energy. We can also sense certain un-wanted energy that attaches
itself to a person. This energy can form in varying ways and in some cases
varying sizes. In others cases may remain in the body itself forming a cellular
memory of the illness or traumatic event that caused it. It is not uncommon
during a Reiki session for the client/patient to have an emotional release
while the body is releasing this energy and returned to a balanced flow of
energy. After repeated session the body forms a new level of cellular
memory allowing a healthy state to return.

That is why using various techniques to clear and cleans the mind, body,
and soul is something of importance to the Reiki Practitioner. It is important
to release any energy that is negative or un-wanted for the practitioner
during the session. Setting an intention to keep "What is mine, stays mine.
What is your remains yours." using energy only from the "source" I myself
take it to the next step and also try to keep a positive flow in my home as
well.

So, Ok... Yes, Reiki is the focus of this Universal Energy. Using one person
as a funnel for the energy into another person, place or thing or an object,
animal...etc, etc.. But how do you know it's working?

Well, the energy from trained Reiki Practitioners have been scientifically
studied finding that the amounts ranged from .3-30 HZ but were generally
7-8 HZ the same frequency most often found in nature settings with relaxing
music playing. (3)  So we have documentation that Reiki is not only real but
studies have also shown that Reiki can aid in returning balance in the human
body by returning the energy to a natural/healthy vibration level.

During the Reiki Session the practitioner will use either gentle hand
placements along the body's energy centers (Chakras) or place the hands
just over the Chakra's working within the person's energy field. Most
Practitioners have different technique. The intent is the same and the results
are usually the same in varying degrees and depending on any other energy
modalities/spiritual techniques used. The intention is key. This is why the
intention we put into what we do is very important.

That my friend would be my brief albeit boring explanation of Reiki. I hope
this is useful to those looking for information about Reiki.

Love and Light to you, Make it a wonderful day.
